Peripheral vascular disease (PVD) can include any disorder that affects the blood vessels. Peripheral vascular disease, the most common disease of the arteries, is caused by build-up of fats in the vessels. This condition is called atherosclerosis, arteriosclerosis or hardening of the arteries, a gradual process in which the artery is blocked, narrowed or weakened. We use a variety of treatments for PVD, including angioplasty to open a blocked artery and vascular surgery.
